Information We Collect

Location data

If you grant permission, the app accesses your device's GPS location (latitude and longitude) to:

• Calculate the direction (bearing) and distance to the Kaaba in Makkah for the Qibla compass, and
• Determine accurate prayer times for your current location.

Location is requested only while you are using the app ("When In Use" access) — we do not request or use background/"Always" location access, and the app does not track your movements over time.

Your coordinates are also used, on your device, to look up a human-readable place name (e.g. "Lahore, Pakistan") via your phone's built-in location/geocoding services (provided by Apple or Google depending on your device).

To calculate prayer times, your coordinates (along with your chosen calculation method and madhab) are sent to the third-party AlAdhan Prayer Times API (see "Third-Party Services" below). We do not log, store, or retain this location data on any server of our own — it is used to make the request and is not saved by us afterward.

You can deny or later revoke location access at any time in your device settings. The Qibla compass and prayer-time features will not work without it, but the rest of the app (Quran reading, translations, audio) works normally without location access.

Information stored only on your device

The app saves the following locally on your device, using standard app storage — this information is never transmitted to us and we cannot see it:

• Reading preferences: Arabic font size, translation font size, selected translation/tafsir/reciter, Mushaf script (Madani/IndoPak), reading theme (dark/light/sepia), and similar display settings.
• Prayer/Qibla settings: your chosen calculation method and madhab (jurisprudence school), and whether Adhan notifications are enabled.
• Downloaded Quran content: when you choose a translation, tafsir, or reciter that isn't built into the app, the text or audio is downloaded once and cached in the app's private storage folder so it doesn't need to be re-downloaded every time. This cached content contains only Quranic text/audio — no personal information.

This data stays on your device and is removed automatically if you uninstall the app, or if you clear the app's storage/cache from your device settings.

Information generated automatically by network requests

When the app contacts the third-party services described below (for example, to fetch prayer times, Quran text, or recitation audio), your device's IP address and basic technical information (such as device type and operating system) are visible to those services as a normal, unavoidable part of how internet requests work. This is standard for any app that connects to the internet. We do not separately collect, log, or analyze this information ourselves.

Information we do not collect

We do not collect, and the app does not request access to: your name, email address, phone number, contacts, photos, camera, microphone, calendar, or any device identifiers or advertising IDs. There is no account system, no user profile, and no in-app messaging or social features.

How We Use Information

We use the information described above only to provide the app's core features:

• Showing the Qibla direction and distance to the Kaaba.
• Calculating and displaying prayer times for your location.
• Remembering your reading and display preferences between sessions.
• Downloading and caching Quran text, translations, tafsir, and recitation audio you choose to use, so the app works offline afterward.

We do not use your information for advertising, profiling, or any purpose unrelated to these features.

Third-Party Services We Use

The app connects to the following third-party services over encrypted (HTTPS) connections. Each is only sent the minimum information needed to fulfill your request, and each operates under its own privacy practices, which we encourage you to review:

• AlAdhan Prayer Times API (aladhan.com) — receives your coordinates, calculation method, and madhab to return prayer times for your location.
• Al Quran Cloud / api.alquran.cloud ("The Noble Quran") — provides additional Quran translations, tafsir texts, and reciter listings not bundled with the app. Requests to this service contain only the Quran content being requested (e.g. a surah number or edition name), not any information about you.
• Islamic Network audio CDN (cdn.islamic.network) — streams Quran recitation audio files by reciter and verse number.
• Your device's native location services (Apple or Google, depending on platform) — used to convert coordinates into a place name and to obtain your GPS position.

We do not control these third parties' servers and are not responsible for their independent privacy practices; however, none of these requests include your name, account information, or any other personal identifier — only the coordinates or content needed to answer the request.

Data Sharing and Disclosure

We do not sell, rent, or share your information with third parties for advertising or marketing purposes. Information is only sent to the third-party services listed above, solely to provide the app's functionality as described. We may disclose information if required to do so by law, but since we do not operate servers that store your personal data, there is generally nothing for us to disclose beyond this policy itself.

Data Storage and Security

Because Islam Companion does not use its own backend servers or databases, there is no central store of user data for us to secure or that could be breached on our end. All personal information handled by the app (your location, at the moment you use it, and your saved preferences/cache) resides on your own device, protected by your device's own security (passcode, encryption, etc.). All network requests the app makes use HTTPS encryption in transit.

Your Choices and Controls

• Location permission: You can allow, deny, or revoke location access at any time from your device's system settings (Settings → Apps → Islam Companion → Permissions on Android; Settings → Privacy → Location Services on iOS).
• Clearing local data: You can delete all locally cached preferences, downloaded translations/tafsir, and cached audio at any time by clearing the app's storage/cache in your device settings, or by uninstalling the app.
• No account to delete: Since the app does not use accounts, there is no account or server-side profile to delete — uninstalling the app removes everything the app stored on your device.

Account & Data Deletion

Islam Companion does not have user accounts or sign-in — there is nothing to register and no account to create or delete. All data the app works with (your device's location, processed only in the moment to show the Qibla direction and prayer times, and your saved preferences/cached content) is stored solely on your own device, never on any server we operate.

To delete all data the app has stored, you have two options:

• Clear the app's storage, keeping the app installed — on Android: Settings → Apps → Islam Companion → Storage & cache → Clear storage. On iOS: Settings → General → iPhone Storage → Islam Companion → Offload App (keeps nothing but the app itself), or simply delete and reinstall.
• Uninstall the app — this immediately and permanently removes everything the app saved on your device, including reading preferences, downloaded translations/tafsir, and cached recitation audio.

Because we don't operate any backend servers, there is no separate server-side copy of your data that a deletion request would need to reach — clearing the app's storage or uninstalling it, as above, removes everything.

Children's Privacy

Islam Companion is a general-audience Islamic reference app and does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children. Since the app has no account system and does not collect personal identifiers from any user, no age-specific data collection takes place. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information through our contact email, please reach out at supportappdevcore@gmail.com and we will address it.

International Users

If you are located in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, California, or another jurisdiction with its own data protection laws, you may have additional rights regarding your information (such as the right to access, correct, or delete data). Because we do not operate servers that store your personal data, these rights are largely already satisfied by design — your location and preferences exist only on your own device and under your own control. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time, for example if we add a new feature that changes what information the app accesses. Any changes will be reflected by updating the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.
